Enjoy the sights of this lakeside town
This charming town is one of the Lake District’s most popular spots. The main road through the national park will take you through Ambleside, so you’re unlikely to miss it.
The town has a timeless atmosphere, with quaint Victorian stone houses and narrow winding streets. The surroundings also add to its magic with a panorama of rugged mountains.
You’ll soon notice that Ambleside sits at the head of a majestic lake, Windermere. In fact, this is the largest body of water in the Lake District. From Ambleside, you can walk along the lakeside promenade to admire the scenery. Take in the sight of boats and yachts as people enjoy the water.
The town centre of Ambleside is lively, with an assortment of shops, pubs and restaurants. You’ll want to stop by the Bridge House for a quirky photo opportunity. This is a 17th-century stone house that sits atop a tiny stone bridge over the river. It is one of the region’s most famous historic buildings.
A short walk out of town will reward you with a beautiful natural sight, the Stock Ghyll Force waterfall.
