The “Queen of the Lakes” by a bustling town
Nestled in northwest England, in the iconic Lake District, Keswick is a small town on the shores of Lake Derwentwater. You’ll be charmed by the bustling atmosphere, as well as the stunning, rugged mountain scenery that surrounds it.
Keswick is an ideal base for exploring the northernmost reaches of the Lake District. In the heart of the town, you’ll find a lively Market Square, hosting dozens of independent traders selling tempting goods.
Of course, a visit to Keswick wouldn’t be complete without a stroll to the tranquil lakeshore. Hike up one of the many mountains, known as “fells”, or opt for a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Derwentwater.
For an easygoing activity, take a short walk to Friars Crag. Here, you can marvel at the sprawling views across the lake and over to Cat Bells mountain. You might also see the memorial for the poet John Ruskin, who once called Keswick a “place almost too beautiful to live in.”
You could also take a stroll around Casterigg stone circle, one of the oldest stone circles in the UK dating back to 3000 BCE.
