Large park full of quaint towns and stately homes
The Peak District was the UK’s first national park, designated in 1951. It is nestled in the north of England, between the cities of Sheffield, Manchester and Leeds. Thanks to its handy location, it’s a must-see area to add to your itinerary.
During your visit, immerse yourself in the rugged landscape of this vast park spanning 555 square miles (1,438 square kilometres). Expect to encounter charming hillside villages, historic mills and stately homes.
With its diverse terrains (that includes no “peaks” despite the name), the park offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor excursions. You could go horse-riding, cycling, caving, fishing or simply walking to admire the local scenery.
Some of the top highlights of the Peak District include visiting the charming town of Bakewell, stepping back in time at Chatsworth House, and witnessing the sweeping views of Hope Valley.
The town of Buxton is also a pretty sight, although it’s not technically part of the national park. That said, it is nestled right at the edge of the park, and is one of Britain’s historic spa towns.
Whether you're exploring the Peak District’s countryside or picturesque towns, you’re sure to be captivated by the relaxed atmosphere and incredible scenery.
