Northern English charm and beauty
When travelling through Northern England, you won’t be short of places to visit in Yorkshire. The UK’s largest county is symbolised by the white rose of the ancient royal House of York. It’s known for its vivid natural beauty, modern culture, medieval history and proud regional identity.
To explore modern British culture amongst medieval sites and streets, stop at York or Harrogate. For bustling city life and music scenes, try Sheffield or Leeds. For spectacular natural scenery, there’s the coastal town of Whitby in the North York Moors, or the iconic Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The people of Yorkshire speak in a unique dialect with a famously warm accent. They’re also known for being some of the friendliest people in the UK, so don’t be surprised when a stranger strikes up a conversation. Listen out for classic Yorkshire slang, such as “ey up” (“hello”) and “ta” (thanks).
In between the many towns and cities, you can stop at all manner of quaint pubs or country houses to explore and sample local food. Some of the best full English breakfasts and Sunday roast dinners can be found in this region, as well as local cheeses produced in the Yorkshire Dales.
