Ancestral home of the Atholl family

Blair Castle in Perthshire, Scotland is the ancestral home to more than nineteen generations of the Clan Murray, one of the feuding dynasties of the Scottish Highlands. The castle stands in Glen Garry, which was considered a strategic stronghold on the historical main route (now the A9 highway) through the central Scottish Highlands. The earliest known part of the castle dates back to the year 1269, though it has been renovated by occupying noblemen many times over, notably in the Medieval, Georgian and Victorian eras.

Guided castle tours are available, from April to October, offering a close-up look at the rooms, artworks and artefacts that illustrate the rich heritage of the castle and its integral role in Scotland’s history throughout the ages. Blair Castle is also known for its lush grounds, which are included in Scotland’s national listing of significant gardens.
