The UK’s outdoor capital
The town of Fort William is considered the “Outdoor Capital of the UK” owing to its prime setting in the Scottish Highlands, lying in the shadow of the mighty Ben Nevis, Britain’s tallest mountain. Notable attractions in the Fort William area include a ski and mountain biking centre, the West Highland Museum, the Glencoe Folk Museum, the Ben Nevis whisky distillery, the old-fashioned Jacobite steam train to Mallaig and the ruins of the 13th century Inverlochy Castle.
As it is such a beautiful location, it’s no wonder the greater Fort William and Glencoe area has been so popular for filming, with notable productions including Braveheart, Skyfall, the Harry Potter series, and Rob Roy.
