Glasgow is Scotland‘s largest city and as such is a thriving year-round hub of culture, history, shopping, dining, arts and entertainment. This friendly, compact city also has a long-standing reputation for its live music scene and its impressive Victorian architecture; it is listed by UNESCO as a City of Music—hosting roughly 130 weekly concerts in all sizes and genres—and was deemed a UK City of Architecture and Design in 1999.
Having shed its old reputation as a gritty industrial city, Glasgow has finally stepped into the limelight thanks to recognition from major publications such as the New York Times and The Guardian travel sections. It was also named as a “Best of the World” destination by National Geographic Traveler and voted the “friendliest city in the world” in a poll by Rough Guides.
This city contains some of Scotland’s best museums, among them the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Burrell Collection, Transport Museum and Science Centre. You'll also find that Glasgow has distinctive neighbourhoods, including the trendy and upscale West End, the eclectic and youthful Finnieston and the sprawling, landmark-rich South Side.
