Highland village with impressive train pass

Glenfinnan is a village in the Scottish Highlands with a long and interesting history, notably for being the site of the Jacobite rising of 1745. Here you’ll find a 59-foot-tall (18 metres) monument commemorating this event at the head of Loch Shiel.

Another prominent feature of the village is the Glenfinnan Viaduct. It was constructed in 1897-1898 and rises high above the valley. If you stop in the village and make the short climb up the hill, you’ll be able to take striking photos.

Make sure to time yourself with the passing of the Jacobite Steam Train, which services Glenfinnan station. The viaduct and the steam train feature in multiple Harry Potter films as the Hogwarts Express.
