A designated “Dark Sky Town”
Moffat is a burgh and parish in Dumfriesshire, part of the Dumfries and Galloway area in Scotland. Nestled along the River Annan, Moffat is a historic spa town with warm Scottish hospitality.
This town holds the title of Europe’s first “Dark Sky Town”. With special street lighting to keep light pollution to a minimum, you’ll be in for a nighttime show on a clear night.
Make sure to check out the Famous Star Hotel, dubbed the narrowest hotel in the world by The Guiness Book of Records. Built in the 1700s, the hotel is just 20 feet (6 metres) wide.
Delve into the history of the town at the Moffat Museum, where the exhibits will transport you back in time. You can learn about how the town was founded in 1633 and get a feel for what life has been like here over the last 400 years.
