Iconic rock formation and mountain walk

One of the most spectacular sights of the Isle of Skye’s Trotternish Peninsula is the Old Man of Storr. A rock pinnacle of 50 metres (164 feet) in height is so named because its outline resembles the profile of an old man. This jagged, basalt outcrop is the highest point on the Trotternish Ridge, which was formed by an ancient landslide. The area in front of the cliffs also contains a number of oddly-shaped rock pinnacles. It's no wonder that this spot is so popular among hikers.

This otherworldly landscape has featured in a number of cultural works, notably the film Prometheus (2012). Some of the movie's opening scenes were filmed here.
