Dinosaur footprints by the sea

For a blast from the Jurassic past, take a walk on An Corran Beach at Staffin. Long before Scotland’s great clans roamed this area on the Isle of Skye, dinosaurs up to 10 meters in length called it home. Scientists have determined that it was a family of Ornithopods, herbivorous creatures who walked on two legs, which left their footprints here on the rocks for all to see. The tracks were discovered by a local woman in 2002, and can be seen at low tide.

The nearby Staffin Museum at Ellishadder, which has limited summer opening hours, is also worthwhile for anyone interested in fossils and dinosaurs.
