Ruins overlooking Loch Ness
The ruins of Urquhart Castle are a sight to behold. Sitting on a headland overlooking the western shoreline of Loch Ness, this haunting structure is among the most iconic images of the Scottish Highlands.
Once one of Scotland’s largest castles, what remains of Urquhart Castle today dates back from as early as the 13th century. Its stories are told through a collection of medieval artefacts, historical replicas and various audio-video exhibits at the visitor centre. You can also walk through the ruins to check out the spooky old prison cell, the great hall and the Grant Tower, offering splendid views over the loch.
The castle ruins are accessible year-round.
