Medieval fort with royal interiors
In picturesque North Wales, immerse yourself in Celtic history at this magnificent 13th-century fortress. Conwy Castle sits above the harbour town of Conwy, with incredible views of Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park to its south. Its eight round towers and high battlements are hard to beat.
Only a 15 minute drive from Llandudno, Conwy Castle will delight any history fan. Despite its size, the fort only took 4 years to build. It was constructed in the 13th century by King Edward I and has been the centre of many battles across the centuries.
Though first built for defence, the castle also features ancient state rooms, designed for the Royal Family of the time to live in. These are some of the best-preserved of their kind in Britain. Wander the halls here and experience what it was like to be a medieval monarch.
You can walk around the whole of Conwy on top of its ancient city walls. On a clear day, you’ll have amazing views of the River Conwy. Leave some time to discover the historic streets of the town itself, and look out for the Smallest House in Great Britain.
