A scenic jewel of North Wales
If you want to experience the breathtaking nature of Snowdonia (“Eryri”) National Park, make sure to visit Ogwen. This name once referred to a rural district in North Wales, but it’s now the title of a collection of valleys, rivers, and lakes.
The area has plenty to offer, with opportunities for heart-racing activities such as rock climbing and abseiling. Or, take a scenic drive through Ogwen valley (“Dyffryn Ogwen”) and venture out onto one of the many trails. With so many walking routes, there is something to suit every ability level.
Stroll the shores of Llyn Ogwen, a mile-long (1.6-kilometre) lake running between grand peaks. You could even bring a pair of binoculars, because Ogwen is rich in biodiversity and is an ideal place for wildlife watching.
The lake trickles down into the River Ogwen (“Afon Ogwen”), which flows north to reach the sea near Bangor.
Whatever way you choose to spend your time in Ogwen, you’re sure to get a real taste of the rugged Welsh landscape.
