Quintessentially English countryside
Immerse yourself in the tranquil English countryside with a visit to the iconic Cotswolds. This region in the southwest of England is full to bursting with rolling hills, green farmland and winding walking paths.
The Cotswolds is England’s largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covering 787 square miles (2,038 square kilometres). The homes, shops and churches here are built from local Cotswold Stone which glows gold in the sunlight.
There are picturesque views to admire at every corner here. One of the top landmarks is Broadway Tower, from which you’ll have a sweeping panorama of the countryside below.
Why not walk part of the Cotswold Way, surrounded by lush landscapes? The region is dotted with peaceful villages, and they all offer cosy pubs and welcoming cafés. One of the best-known towns is Bourton-on-the-Water, where small stone cottages line a meandering river. You could also visit Chipping Campden or Great Tew.
You may recognise places in the Cotswolds from the many films and TV series recorded here. Think Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and adaptations of Jane Austen’s novels. The elegant spa city of Bath is also located in the Cotswolds, with incredible Georgian streets and rich Roman history.
