Lovely English town by the River Thames
Located on the outskirts of London, by the Chiltern Hills, Marlow is an idyllic town in the district of Buckinghamshire. Whether you pass by or decide to stay longer, you’ll soon see why it’s often revered as one of the most charming locations on the River Thames.
The riverside is ideal for a stroll on a sunny day and to try water activities. Or wander through the town centre, with its collection of independent shops, cafés and restaurants.
The food scene in Marlow far exceeds expectations for such a small town. It even has Michelin-starred restaurants, promising to offer you a gastronomic experience.
Across the year you could join in the many celebrations and festivals hosted here. There is a food and music festival in Higginson Park every May. In June, you could see the highlights of the Thames with the yearly regatta.
One of the main highlights of the town is the Marlow Suspension Bridge, which links the town and larger county to its neighbour, Berkshire. It was designed by the same architect who planned the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest, Hungary.
Another claim to fame of the town is that many authors and artists have called Marlow their home over the years. Mary Shelley is said to have completed her novel Frankenstein while living in Marlow.
And if you’re a fan of the TV show Midsomer Murders, Marlow has a trail that you can follow. This way you’ll find filming locations here and in the nearby Chilterns.
