Uncover the Norman influences on this Welsh town
Chepstow is a town in South Wales nestled right at the English border. When you visit, you’ll soon see that Chepstow’s location makes it an interesting destination. It’s situated at the crossroads between the two countries.
The town also offers a good mix of history and scenery thanks to its surrounding nature. In fact, 2 bodies of water separate Chepstow from England: the River Severn to the south and the River Wye to the east.
The main reason to visit the town is its crowning jewel, Chepstow Castle. This Norman fortress is one of the oldest and most impressive castles in Britain. The tower was even commissioned by William the Conqueror after the Battle of Hastings. As the castle overlooks the river below, you’ll enjoy incredible views from here.
If you’d like to learn more about the local history, you’ll find the Chepstow Museum by the castle. You could also discover the extensive remains of the town walls. They were built in the 13th century and are still very impressive today.
Finally, don’t forget to take a stroll through the town centre. There is an array of shops as well as traditional pubs and restaurants available.
